We achieved our first Amber Flag in May 2022. This flag recognises the efforts of schools and organisations that create healthy and inclusive environments that support mental well-being. This flag links in with our Active School Flag as we see the important role sport and physical activities have on our well-being. To be awarded the Pieta Amber Flag, we had to host a mental health awareness event, a fundraiser, and a mental health initiative. The programme encourages teamwork and student contributions and works with the school community to include a peer-support element. One student was chosen from 1st – 6th class to represent their class on the committee. The team along, with the coordinator Múinteoir Lauren, prepared an audit of the activities and services in the school that promote an ethos of positive mental health. We ran a well-being week in March which included a whole week of fun filled mindfulness activities, yoga and meditation along with creating a thankful tree in the garden. The Amber Flag acknowledged these efforts.
