Active Schools

Active School Flag

The Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education and Skills Initiative supported by Healthy Ireland which aims to get more schools, more active, more often. It is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community.

We are currently working towards attaining an ASF here in Scoil San Isadóir, Boherlahan. Keep an eye on this page to see what we get up to in trying to make our school more active!

Thanks to everyone because with your help, ideas and support, we achieved out first Active Flag in June 2022.

Our committee members are the engine behind all the great ideas. They are students from 1st - 6th class. This year’s committee have been busy carrying out surveys, creating slogans, sharing ideas and performing duties. Well done to all involved. You are doing a brilliant job!

P.E.

The school are striving to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. With help from our teachers, students, parents and wider community we hope that our school will continue to be recognised as an Active School. As always, when the school community puts our collective minds to something we can achieve big things. This was no different.

·       Each class is taught five different PE strands each year from Athletics, Aquatics, Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Outdoor and Adventure.

·       Teachers make use of the PSSI lesson plans to guide their delivery of the Primary PE Curriculum.

·       Specialist coaching in dancing and swimming is provided to classes.

·       Every child’s progress in PE is discussed at parent/teacher meetings.

·       Feedback about progress in PE is included in our annual school reports.

·       An Annual Sports Day takes place in the last term of the year.

·       School tours that are activity based are promoted throughout the school.

·       Our school has a detailed inventory of equipment which is checked and updated with the assistance of the Active School Committee regularly.

·       Our PE equipment and resources are clearly labelled, well organised and accessible and our school strives to make maximum use of the PE equipment available to us.

Local Partnerships

We have great partnerships with many local sporting clubs, particularly our GAA club, Boherlahan/Dualla. The club provides great support to our school in many ways and especially in terms of allowing us to use their wonderful facilities.

Irish Dancing and drama is taught after school in our hall.

Throughout the years we have welcomed visitors from Cashel Community School, CBS Thurles, Presentation Secondary School Thurles, Ursuline Thurles, Cumann na mBunscol, FAI Schools Soccer, Tipperary County Board, Tipperary County Library, Road Safety Authority.
