A Bloom’ing start to June
As part of our Incredible Edibles project which we have been doing all year- we won a trip to Bloom in the Phoenix Park.
Friday morning, the 2nd of June we got a bus to Dublin. We arrived at Bloom and were met by a member of the Agri-Aware team who showed us where to go.
We first went to the food village where we had our lunch. We then explored the food stalls where the children got to sample lots of well known foods such as O’Donnell crisps, Keoghs, Keelings, Mallow Mia, Butlers Chocolates, Ballymaloe and so on.
After this we explored the Super Gardens. Wild flowers were featuring in most of these.
We then had our tour from an Agri-Aware farmer. He talked all about the livestock animals on show - the cows and sheep. He then spoke about biodiversity and the seven Incredible Edibles!
After that the children got to visit to the Eat Well Stage and Bord Bia Horticulture Tent.
Here they had a tour of the tent followed by a brief talk on Irish fruit and vegetables and their nutritional importance in a healthy diet with Dietitian Niamh Arthurs.
To finish off the day we navigated our way over to the Kids Zone where the children enjoyed their lunch while watching a science show.
Back on the bus we faced Dublin traffic and finally got home to Boherlahan with happy but tired children. What a great day in Bloom!
